Cotoneaster: providing food and cover, Cotoneaster will also add great color to the garden with a nice show of fall berries on top of willow-like foliage. It’s rapidly spreading, easy to grow, and pest-free.
Crabapple: flowering ornamental Crabapple trees will provide birds with food, cover and nesting. Excellent for color and visual interest, these ornamentals are more petite and great for smaller landscapes.
Dogwood: both shrub and tree form Dogwoods provide good food, cover and nesting for native birds. A very diverse group, these trees and shrubs are also very attractive in the landscape for their bark color, flowers and berries.
Holly: prized as the best fall berry show in the landscape, Holly provides birds with food, cover and nesting. Check out our entire selection of Ilex.
Juniper: Junipers come in a wide range of colors, textures and sizes, but all make great bird food, cover and nesting. These tough evergreens can be used as groundcover or hedging, depending on the variety.
Ornamental Grasses: many ornamental grasses provide great food and cover for birds, while also adding a ton of visual interest to your garden. We recommend Indian Grass for its 3-5’ tall bluish-green foliage and feathery seed stalks or Little Bluestem Grass for its 2-4’ tall bronze fall foliage and purplish-bronze late summer flowers.
Viburnum: an excellent choice for food, cover and nesting, these plants add fantastic fall color to the garden and make great specimen or border plantings. Ranging in size from 5-12’ tall and 5-12' wide, check out all our varieties of Viburnum.
Weigela: these shrubs are hummingbird magnets! Weigela also provides cover and nesting, while adding a ton of foliage and flower color to the landscape.
