Wolcott Garden Treasures
This deciduous shrub makes a handsome accent, border or mass planting. Long-blooming, fragrant, pink, blue or purple flower spikes are borne in late summer. Removing spent blooms as they are wilting will encourage new blooms and keep the color show going into September.
This full sun shrub will grow to 3-9' tall and wide, depending on the variety.
Butterfly bush is an extremely late grower, and will likely not show any green growth until well into May. Do not mistake this delayed start as the death of the plant.
To keep your bush compact, trim the stems back in fall no shorter than 1-1.5' out of the ground. To encourage a larger shrub, prune back only slightly, if at all, to maintain shape.
