Leucothoe

Coast Leucothoe (axillaries)

  • 3-6’ tall x 3-6’ wide
  • May bloom
  • White, catkin-like flowers on top of a range of foliage color throughout the year: bronze at flush, medium green in summer, purple-red in winter
  • Best in shade and moist, well-drained soil
  • Deer resistant

Compact Drooping Leucothoe (catesbaei ‘Compacta’)

  • 3-4’ tall x 3-4’ wide
  • Mid- to late-May bloom of white, catkin-like flowers
  • Tightly packed foliage emerges bronze and matures to deep, lustrous green, then turns to purple-red in the winter months
  • Branches are curvy and fountain forming
  • Great for shaded and partially shaded areas; fairly deer resistant

Variegated Coast Leucothoe (axillaries ‘Rainbow’)

  • 3-6’ tall x 3-6’ wide
  • May bloom
  • White, catkin-like flowers on top of cream-colored variegated foliage that turns bronze to scarlet in the fall to winter
