If you like the idea of the 4-Step Program, but don’t need to treat each seasonal pest problem, try these alternate Scotts products that can be used individually or in conjunction with each other as a customized system:

Early Spring
From March to May, use Super Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer to prevent foxtail, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, spurge, oxalis and goosegrass. If you’ve seeded for new grass, try Starter Fertilizer plus Crabgrass Preventer.

Late Spring
For post-emergent control of dandelions, chickweed, henbit, plantain, white clover and most broadleaf weeds, use Super Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control.

Summer
From June to August use Super Turf Builder with Summerguard to control ants, armyworms, billbugs, chiggers, chinch bugs, cutworms, fleas, mole crickets, sod webworms, ticks and more. This will kill active insects and provide effective control for about six weeks, while feeding your lawn for up to two months. The Summerguard will also strengthen your lawn against heat, drought and wear and tear. Summer is also a great time to use Super Turf Builder Lawn Fertilizer with 2% Iron, which will produce a thicker, greener lawn with a patented time release formula that works from the roots up while feeding for up to two months. This product combines the proper "NPK Ratio," which is the ideal proportion of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for optimal greening, development and hardiness.

Autumn
From August to November, protect your lawn and prepare it for winter with Turf Builder Winterguard, which is specially designed to help produce a better lawn in the spring – use it as your last feeding of the year. Additionally, while Super Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer can be used in the spring, try this product in the fall as well to prevent moss, poa annua and chickweed.
