Our Story

Before we were Wolcott Garden Treasures, we were A Public Flower & Garden Center, which budded from the A Public Can & Bottle Return in January 2004.  In spring of 2000, Moe and Dot Blanchette, former owners of the can and bottle return business, started a fledgling flower and garden shop in a spare room of the redemption center.  Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, Moe would head out to the Farmer’s Market and fill his van.  While still collecting, counting and exchanging cans, Moe and Dot began selling flowers, statuaries and a few trees and shrubs to their customers. Despite the strange partnership, the two businesses managed to compliment each other well.  Before long, the flowers were attracting almost as many customers as the cans.

So, in the winter of 2003, Moe and Dot decided to separate the businesses, just as you would do with a healthy perennial, to give them room to grow. Being much more specialized in horticulture than in beverage redemption, Moe and Dot decided to put all their efforts into the newly formed A Public Flower & Garden Center, leaving the Can & Bottle Return to a new owner.

Starting in the spring of 2004, A Public Flower & Garden Center opened in a newly renovated building in the lot behind the can & bottle return. The building had formerly been used as a garage, but after a long winter of hard work, it became a perfectly comfortable shop for a whole new assortment of gardening products and accessories.

In 2008, Dot's daughter, Kim, started managing the store, and as of season open 2009, became the new owner.  Since we're no longer affiliated with A Public Bottle & Can Return, we've really been overdue for a new (and better) name.  So Kim settled on Wolcott Garden Treasures and we began the transition to the new name in spring of 2009.
