The upright form of Phlox is often called Garden Phlox, although many people associate the taller form with the name Volcano Phlox (which is really just a paniculata garden phlox cultivar). Phlox is also available as a creeping groundcover.
TRADITIONAL GARDEN PHLOX:
carolina Miss Lingard - white flowers, early-mid summer bloom, 36" tall.
paniculata Laura - lavender flowers, August-September bloom, 24" tall
VOLCANO GARDEN PHLOX: Especially long-blooming, and mildew-resistant these varieties will bloom in early July into August, but if you cut the plants down by 2/3 after the blooms are spent, they'll generally re-bloom in September.
Notes on Garden Phlox: while these perennials are naturally mildew resistant, it's important to plant them with enough open space around them to aid in air flow.
