Product Guarantee

Product Guarantee: Some winters in Connecticut can be tough for new trees and shrubs to bear; others can be absolutely brutal. With this in mind, we are able to offer a one-year, one-time, 50% off replacement guarantee on all of our trees and shrubs.

What does this guarantee mean?

If the tree or shrub that you bought from us dies within one year of your purchase, you can return it and receive 50% of the price you paid back in the form of store credit. You must bring the original register receipt with the Tree & Shrub guarantee printed at the bottom, or the handwritten receipt you received at the time of purchase.  Without the receipt, we can not accept your return.  Please keep in mind that if you choose to purchase another of the same plant as the one you returned, the new plant will not receive another guarantee.  Another tree or shrub of a different species or variety will carry the guarantee.

I think my plant is dead.  What do I do?

Do not do anything until you can be sure the plant is completely dead. Often times, people assume their plants are dead when they do not perk up in the early spring, but some winters, even if they do not seem particularly tough to us, are rough on our plants.  If a tree or shrub does not come back in the spring, bend the branches and stems slightly. If they are still pliable, leave the plant alone and give it time to regenerate; if the plant is completely brittle, make sure there are no signs of new growth coming from the base of the plant and bring it in for your guaranteed replacement.  Bear in mind that here are a few shrubs, including Butterfly Bush, that show absolutely no signs of life until early summer.  When in doubt, give us a call – we would be happy to help.

What doesn't the guarantee cover?

Our guarantee only covers trees and shrubs, not annuals or perennials.  All our cold hardy trees & shrubs are covered, but occassionally we may carry a species or variety that is only borderline hardy for our area.  These non-hardy plants will not be covered.  A good example that is usually in stock is Scotchbroom, which can thrive in just the right location in the Wolcott area, but is hard-pressed to make it anywhere north of here or at a higher elevation.  At the time of purchase, the register will automatically print the terms of the guarantee at the bottom of your receipt if your purchase(s) meet the eligibility.

Be advised that trees and shrubs killed by improper watering, planting or maintenance are not covered.  This includes damage or death due to poor soil or planting in an area with incorrect sun conditions.  If you have any questions regarding whether a particular plant will grow in your soil or sun conditions, we'd be happy to advise you.  Plants killed by extreme acts of nature (i.e., hurricanes, tornadoes, floods) are also not covered under our guarantee, nor are plants damaged or killed by accidents such as falling objects, collisions or some kind of deliberate damage.

How do I know if my plant is covered under the guarantee?

If one of your purchases is covered by our guarantee, your register-generated receipt will have a tree & shrub guarantee note on the bottom, or you will receive a handwritten receipt that notes the plant covered under the guarantee. Only if you have one of these receipts can you return your purchase.

How do I get a replacement?

Bring both the tree or shrub and the hand-written guarantee receipt listing the tree or shrub back to our store to redeem your guarantee. The guarantee receipt must be dated no more than one year before the date of return for the exchange to be valid.
