Summer Checklist

Maintain your lawn, early summer: for early spring and late summer post-emergent control of dandelions, chickweed, henbit, plantain, white clover and most broadleaf weeds, use Super Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control.  If you're following the Scotts LawnPro 4-step Program, April to June is the time for Step 2 Weed Control plus Fertilizer.

Maintain your lawn, mid to late summer: most people don't do a whole lot with their lawns in the heat of the summer, but this really is a time when your grass might need a little help.  From June through August, we recommend Scotts Super Turf Builder with Summerguard, which will kill and control insects, as well as protect the grass from heat and drought.  Scotts Super Turf Builder with 2% Iron is also a great product to consider for summer use, as its patented, time release formula delivers the just the right ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for optimal greening and hardiness.  If you're following the Scotts LawnPro 4-step Program, you'll want to use Step 3 Insect Control plus Fertilizer.

Raise the height on your mower: leaving grass a little longer in the summer when it is hot and dry will help prevent scorching and brown spots.

Keep up on the watering: o
f course, it's not always feasible during drought times, but if you're able to, keep lots of water flowing to your lawn and garden to keep your landscape from scorching in the summer sun.

Dead Heading: removing spent blooms is an important maintenance measure that will keep your perennials and flowering shrubs healthy and looking great.  If you're not sure how to do it, see our page on dead heading.

Enjoy all your hard work!  Summer is the biggest bloom time, so sit back with a glass of lemondade and appreciate the beautiful landscape you've cultivated.
